How often should you service your car?
Follow the service intervals in your owner’s manual. Many modern cars are due every 10,000 to 15,000 km or every 6 to 12 months, whichever comes first, but it varies by make and model. Cars that do lots of short trips, tow or sit in heavy traffic may need servicing more often.
More than an oil change
Because we’re auto electricians as well as mechanics, every service includes a battery and charging test — the checks that catch a no-start before it happens. If we find something that needs fixing, we explain it and quote before doing any extra work. See our guide to mobile mechanic costs in Sydney.
Signs your car needs a service before it’s due
- The oil or service light is on
- The oil on the dipstick is low, very dark or gritty
- New noises — knocking, squealing belts or grinding brakes
- Warning lights on the dashboard
- The car feels sluggish or uses more fuel than usual
- It’s been more than a year since the last service, even if you haven’t driven far
If any of these sound familiar, book a service sooner rather than later. Small problems found early are almost always cheaper to fix.
