Signs it’s your battery

  • Slow or laboured cranking
  • Clicking when you turn the key
  • Dash lights flicker or dim at start-up
  • Battery warning light on
  • Car has been sitting unused for weeks
  • Battery is more than three to four years old

What we check

  • Battery health and state of charge
  • Alternator charging output
  • Starter motor current draw
  • Terminals, cables and earth straps
  • Battery type for stop-start cars (EFB or AGM)
  • Registration with the car’s computer where needed

Battery replacement where your car is parked

Most no-starts come down to the battery, but not all of them. Because we’re auto electricians as well as mechanics, we test the whole starting and charging system before we sell you anything. If the battery has failed, we fit the right type for your car on the spot — including EFB and AGM batteries for stop-start models — and register it with the car’s computer where your make needs it. If the real fault is the alternator, the starter or a parasitic drain, we tell you, because a new battery won’t fix those.

What affects the price?

The price depends on the battery your car needs — standard, EFB or AGM — its size, and whether it needs registering with the car’s computer. Our guide to what affects the cost of a car battery replacement explains each of these. We confirm the price for your car before we start.

Not the battery?

A no-start can also be the alternator, starter or wiring. Our guide to a car that won’t start but the lights come on explains how to tell the difference.

FAQ

Batteries: questions

Still unsure? Call 0413 404 040

Can you replace my car battery at home or at work?

Yes. Tell us the make, model and year so we bring the right battery, and we’ll fit it where the car is parked — at home, at work or at the roadside.

Can you jump-start my car?

Yes, where it’s safe to do so. A jump start gets you going, but if the battery is weak we recommend testing it so it doesn’t leave you stranded again.

How long does a car battery last?

The RACV says a standard battery usually lasts three to five years and an AGM battery five to seven. Heat, short trips and cars left unused shorten that. See how long a car battery lasts in Sydney.

What if it still won’t start with a new battery?

Then the battery wasn’t the problem. The alternator, starter or wiring is the likely cause, and we’ll test those and tell you what we find.

Do you fit batteries for stop-start cars?

Yes. Stop-start cars need an EFB or AGM battery, and many need the new battery registered with the car’s computer. We do both on site.
