Why car air conditioning stops working
Low refrigerant from a slow leak is a common cause, but plenty of air con faults are electrical: a blown fuse, a failed relay, a faulty pressure switch, a compressor clutch that won’t engage, or a cooling fan that has stopped. Those are auto electrical jobs, and we find and fix them on site. We check the electrical side first, so you know whether the problem is a part we can replace on the spot or a refrigerant issue.
Fan and airflow problems
If the air con works but the fan only runs on its highest setting, or not at all, the usual culprit is the blower motor resistor or the blower motor itself. Weak airflow on every setting often points to a blocked cabin filter. Both are common, quick fixes we can do where the car is parked.
If it needs refrigerant work
Handling refrigerant requires a licensed air conditioning technician. If the fault turns out to be a refrigerant leak or a system that needs re-gassing, we tell you what we found so the right specialist can fix it without starting from scratch.
Keep your air con working
Run the air conditioning for a few minutes every week, even in winter, to keep the seals lubricated. Replace the cabin filter as your service book recommends, and get any weak cooling checked before the first hot spell of summer, when everyone else does.
Air con smells musty?
A blocked or dirty cabin filter is a common cause, and it also reduces airflow. It’s a quick job we can do on site.
Where we do it
We come to you anywhere across our 20 Western Sydney suburbs, including:
Why is my car air con blowing hot air?
Common causes are low refrigerant from a leak, a compressor that isn’t engaging, or an electrical fault such as a fuse, relay, pressure switch or cooling fan. We test the electrical side on site.
Why does my car fan only work on the highest setting?
Usually a failed blower motor resistor. It’s a common fault and a quick repair we can do where the car is parked.
Can you fix car air conditioning at my home?
Yes, for electrical faults such as fuses, relays, switches, fans, blower motors and wiring. If the system needs refrigerant work, we tell you upfront.
How often should I use my car air con?
Run it for a few minutes every week, even in winter. It keeps the seals lubricated and helps prevent leaks.
Who fixes car air conditioning — a mechanic or an auto electrician?
Both can be involved: the refrigerant side needs a licensed air conditioning technician, and the controls, fans and switches are electrical. We handle the electrical side.
