The cost of a mobile mechanic in Sydney depends on three things: the parts your car needs, the time the job takes and how urgent it is. A battery test or a diagnostic check costs far less than a repair that needs parts, and many mobile mechanics add a call-out fee. Whoever you book, ask for the likely cost and any call-out fee before work starts.

What you pay for
| Part of the bill | What it covers | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Call-out fee | Travel to you and the first look at the car | Is there a call-out fee, and is it included if you go ahead with the repair? |
| Labour | Time spent finding and fixing the fault | Is it charged by the hour or as a fixed price for the job? |
| Parts | Batteries, brake pads, filters and anything else fitted | Which brand, and what warranty comes with it? |
| Diagnostics | Testing to find the cause of a warning light or a no-start | Is diagnostic time included in the repair price? |
What changes the price
- Parts. The biggest variable. A small-car battery costs far less than an AGM battery for a stop-start SUV, and brake discs cost more than pads alone.
- Time on the job. Most mobile mechanics charge for labour time on top of parts. Access matters: a battery under a seat or in the boot takes longer than one under the bonnet.
- Your car. European cars, hybrids and newer models can need specialist parts, diagnostic software or programming after a repair.
- Finding the fault. If the cause isn’t obvious, a diagnostic check comes first. Warning lights and intermittent electrical faults take longer to pin down than a flat battery.
- When you need it. Urgent and after-hours call-outs usually cost more than a booked visit.
For batteries in particular, see what affects the cost of a car battery replacement.
Is a mobile mechanic more expensive than a workshop?
Not necessarily. For common jobs — batteries, brakes, diagnostics and servicing — mobile prices sit in the same range as workshop prices, and you save the trip, the wait and sometimes a tow. Big jobs that need a hoist, such as clutch or transmission work, are usually better done in a workshop. A good mobile mechanic will tell you that before you book.
How we quote at BOSS 1
We’re a licensed mobile mechanic and auto electrician (NSW repairer licence MVRL 60872) based in Merrylands. Before we start, we talk you through the likely cost and any call-out fee. The final price depends on what we find and the parts your car needs, and if a job is better done in a workshop, we tell you upfront.
Because we do both electrical and mechanical work, a no-start or warning-light job can be diagnosed and fixed in one visit instead of two. See all our services or the suburbs we cover.
How to get an accurate quote
- Give the make, model and year of your car.
- Describe what it’s doing: noises, warning lights, when it started.
- Send a photo or short video if you can — WhatsApp is easiest.
- Tell us where the car is and how we can get to it (driveway, street, car park level).
